Whenever you get new furniture you always have to consider just what to do with the old furniture first. There’s always a family member or friend who stakes a claim on it but then 3 weeks later it’s still sitting in your garage.

The easiest thing to do with your old furniture is to donate it to charity. It’s not as difficult as waiting on cousin Billy to borrow somebody’s truck before coming to finally pick it up from your house. All you have to do is call up one of the local donation charities and they will give you instructions on just what to do.

While these organizations need as many furniture donations as possible they only want items that are in decent condition. So make sure that your furniture is at least in working order because the furniture will be sold or given to a needy family for reuse. The great thing about donating furniture items is you can drop off the items at their location or some of the organizations will even come to your home and pick-up the furniture.

Another huge benefit besides helping a needy cause is that donating furniture in Metro Atlanta is a tax write-off. Get a receipt when the items are picked up by the charity. Once you get the receipt, itemize the items you gave to charity and list them with their fair market value of their worth.

We have a sofa, loveseat and large tv to donate but we are moving and it must be picked up by March 31st. It’s all in great condition. Is anyone interested?

  2. Hi Lisa!

Do you have pics of the furniture that you could email or post?

  3. Mercedes says:

I am moving out of state and I have a queen-sized bed and dresser with mirror all in very good condition that I would like to donate. I need the furniture to be picked up no later then Thursday (3/17/11) afternoon. I have pictures available upon request.

  4. We would like to request to be added to this list, is possible. We are a fairly new non-profit in Marietta who helps those who have no furniture, such as those moving out of homeless shelters, get set up in a home. We love deliveries, but do pick up several times a month in Cobb County, Roswell, and Alpharetta. We can sometimes pick up from other locations as well, if someone can wait until we can get to that area. Thank you for your consideration.

I have a washer, a dryer, a sleeper couch, and a loveseat I need to donate. Unfortunately, I have no access to a truck, so I need them to be picked up in Buckhead by April 1… Does anyone know somewhere or someone that can take them off my hands??

  7. Hi Victoria:

Are these items in good working condition? The condition of these items will determine who will pick them up. If they are working items in fair to good condition then there would be more options but if the items are unusable then donation locations will consider them more as trash or junk. Here is one of my newest donation non-profit sites:

Hi, Brenda and others. I have a sofa, rocking chair, and a couple of tables that i would like to donate. The sofa is structurally sound but the upholstery is torn in places. And, of course, I’d need them picked up (in Decatur). Is there any organization that would take these? I really would prefer not to just put them in the landfill.

  9. Shirley says:

I have a complete living room set with a pull out bed, and a queen sized bedroom set that I need to dispose of because I am moving to another state. The apartment is in Atlanta, and the furniture is in excellent, I mean excellent condition! I would like to donate, but I need the items out of the apartment by June 4, 2011. Anyone interested? And yes, I can supply photos but only to interested parties. I am looking to donate to a charitable organization, but they must pick it up.
