Once you close the door the protruding screw head will prevent the door from closing properly.

Using wood putty is also a quick fix. Just smear some putty in the holes…let them dry and then re-insert your screws, right? Nope! It’s a temporary fix. Since doors get so much usage the wood putty will begin to break down around the screws due to the movement and agitation. Eventually you will be back to square one.
